KUKA is not only one of the biggest global players in automation but also a leading supplier of robotic components for medical devices. It is the only globally operating robotics company with an entire industry management team dedicated to medical robotics. Based on more than two decades of experience in robotics healthcare, our team offers medical device manufactures the products and expertise to support them on their way to market. As a dedicated medical R&D department, we are continuously developing market-relevant software packages and refining existing industrial solutions cutting-edge healthcare solutions.

From diagnostics and surgical interventions on the patient right through to therapy: KUKA robots meet the stringent requirements needed in the medical field and are well-suited to a wide variety of medical technology use cases.

Depending on the intended use, either the sensitive ancollaborative lightweight robot with integrated sensors - KUKA LBR Med - or robots with payload capacities of 50 to 300 kilograms such as the KUKA KR QUANTEC are utilized by our MedTech partners in their medical devices.
As key supplier, KUKA offers a high-precision platform for robotic assistance systems in clinical applications. The platform can be used for a variety of medical robotic applications such as diagnostics, various surgical procedures or rehabilitation exercises. In addition, it can be used for cancer treatments to facilitate the work of physicians and improve the well-being of patients.

Lightweightrobot LBR Med

LBR Med: your medical assistant

With a reach of 800 to 820 mm and a lifting capacity of 7 kg or 14 kg, KUKA supplies the LBR Med, a CB scheme-certified robotic component for integration into medical devices, thus bundling all the robotic capabilities that are specifically required in medical technology. The multifunctional robotic platform LBR Med can calibrate itself completely independently with the aid of sensors and operate precisely with a repeatability of ± 0.1 to ± 0.15 mm. Standards are also set in the processing of the relevant data in hardware and software as well as in the performance features of the device, because the LBR Med has all the prerequisites for safe use in medical technology. Thanks to the redundant, integrated torque sensors, the LBR Med can detect externally acting forces and react according to the programmed specifications. Collision detection is monitored by integrated sensors and is a prerequisite for human-robot collaboration.

KR QUANTEC HC

KR QUANTEC HC: The safest robot in the KR QUANTEC series

As a robot originally developed for industry, the KR QUANTEC HC offers a wide range of applications with a payload of up to 300 kg. Thanks to additional brakes in axes 2 and 5, the KR QUANTEC HC has even greater safety with a reach of up to 2,700 mm. The robot's personnel recovery system makes it possible to release the brakes manually and move the robot by hand in unforeseen situations, such as a power failure. The KR QUANTEC HC is equipped with a counterweight system and a pressure sensor that makes it possible to check the pressure during operation and stop the robot if the pressure drops.
